The Prince – The Messiah

Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy. Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times. And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined. And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate. Daniel 9:24-27

Steps: 4, 5, 11, 12

In this section of Scripture we have a very unique message. All through history the great question was when would Messiah, the Great Prince of God, finally come. In the time of Daniel the date was finally set by God as to when His Son would come to Earth. This prophecy sets the date and the time when Messiah would finally come. God gives Israel a probationary period to come into full recovery with Him. God says that from the time of the decree to restore and to build Jerusalem until Messiah the Prince would be 69 weeks of years or 483 years – 69x7 = 483. The time of the decree was 457 BC, the end of the 69 weeks would be 27AD. This is the year that Jesus was anointed as Messiah. Luke 3:1-22. This year Jesus was about 30 years old. Luke 3:23. 30 years before 27 AD would give the time of the birth of Jesus to be about 5-4 BC. Thus if the people had wanted to know they could have calculated from these dates the time of the birth of Jesus, and the place of His birth had already been established – Bethlehem. Micah 5:2. God wanted us to know. On top of that God also told us, in this same Scripture that in the middle of the 70th week, Jesus would be crucified 3.5 years after His Anointing. In 31AD Jesus would die on the cross.

Prayer for Today: Now God this is a lot of information to swallow at one time. It is amazing to us that You know that much about the future, yet You have clearly stated this knowledge all through the Bible. Isaiah 46:9-10. We would have to believe that if You knew when You would come, that You must also know all about us and what our future will look like as well. We think we would like to know about our future also, but it might scare us into a premature death. Help us to learn to trust You for one day at a time, and when You see fit You will give us more information if it would be helpful to us. You are amazing, and we thank You for the opportunity of getting to know someone like You.
