Abraham Sees a Ram

And Abraham lifted up his eyes, and looked, and behold behind him a ram caught in a thicket by his horns: and Abraham went and took the ram, and offered him up for a burnt offering in the stead of his son. And Abraham called the name of that place Jehovahjireh: as it is said to this day, In the mount of the LORD it shall be seen. Genesis 22:13-14

Steps 4, 5, 10, 11, 12

Abraham, after being delivered from having to kill his on, looks up and sees a ram caught in a thicket. He recognizes God’s fulfillment of Abraham’s testimony that He would provide a Lamb. Abraham sacrifices the ram in place of Isaac and the promise is completed. In addition God grants Abraham another gift for in this experience God allows Abraham a view of the sacrifice of the Lamb of God. Jesus declared that “Abraham rejoiced to see My day; and he saw it, and was glad.” John 8:56. Abraham saw that God would complete the sacrifice that Abraham had tasted of. God would allow His beloved Son Jesus to die in place of humanity whom had sinned against Him. That which Abraham tasted of would be completed by God Himself.

Prayer for Today: It is an amazing story that You would allow Your Son to die in our place. We deserve death yet You want to grant us life. Help us to accept Your precious Gift and help us to accept the impact that it should have on our hearts and minds. Help us to grasp that you allowed Jesus to die for us because You love us. Thank You for Your great mercies to us.
