Solomon sought therefore to kill Jeroboam. And Jeroboam arose, and fled into Egypt, unto Shishak king of Egypt, and was in Egypt until the death of Solomon. I Kings 11:40
Steps: 1, 2, 3
Solomon’s heart was so far turned away from God that he attempted to kill the man appointed by God to take over the 10 northern tribes of Israel after Solomon’s death. God had chosen this man, and sent His prophet to tell him that he was appointed by God to rule over the people that God would take away from Solomon’s son. God prophesied that after Solomon died the nation would divide into two from the evil things Solomon had initiated. This attempt at murder completes the list of behaviors of the beast of Revelation 13. Solomon trusted in wealth, he trusted in horses from Egypt for military success, Solomon was inundated with heathen concepts through his wives/churches, and finally he began to persecute those who did not agree with him. Solomon, in his rebellion, displayed the same qualities as the beast power of Revelation 13.
Prayer for Today: Lord, help us to remember how easy it is to get off the beaten track. When someone as wise as Solomon can off the deep end we pray that we will not have to follow him. Help us to learn from his lessons and help us to not do all of the things that Solomon did. Help us to make the changes necessary to remain in harmony with You. Thank You for Your mercies.
