The Anointing of Jesus

Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him. But John forbad him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me? And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffered him. And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him: And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Matthew 3:13-17

Steps: 1, 2, 3, 11, 12

After John had prepared the way for Jesus, Jesus came to John to be baptized of him. When Jesus came to John, John did not want to baptize Jesus because Jesus was sinless and thus did not need baptism in the same way we do, to wash away our sins. But Jesus encouraged John to do it to fulfill the needs of man and the needs of God. Jesus was baptized for all mankind since He was going to take on the sins of all mankind and all of their addictions at one time. When Jesus was baptized by the prophet of God, He came up out of the water and was baptized by the Holy Spirit of God. Then the Father in heaven spoke and said to Jesus that Jesus was indeed His beloved Son, even though a human being, and that God was pleased with Him, and was pleased with the humanity for whom Jesus came to save.

Prayer for Today: God, thank You that You were willing to allow Jesus to come to us. It is a little difficult for us to grasp that You sent Your Son to become a human being to show us what recovery and salvation look like when done correctly. It is amazing that You would love us so much as to offer Your Son to become one of us, and then to take care of us. You know our limited understanding of these things, but thank You and thank Jesus that He was willing as well. Help us in turn to be willing to allow Him to help us and to deliver us.
