Then came all the tribes of Israel to David unto Hebron, and spake, saying, Behold, we are thy bone and thy flesh. Also in time past, when Saul was king over us, thou wast he that leddest out and broughtest in Israel: and the LORD said to thee, Thou shalt feed my people Israel, and thou shalt be a captain over Israel. So all the elders of Israel came to the king to Hebron; and king David made a league with them in Hebron before the LORD: and they anointed David king over Israel. David was thirty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned forty years. In Hebron he reigned over Judah seven years and six months: and in Jerusalem he reigned thirty and three years over all Israel and Judah. II Samuel 5:1-5

David waited for God to accomplish His tasks and God united Judah and Israel into one nation and God made David the king over all of Israel – His people. God had anointed David king when he was young and after many years of persecution by King Saul, God had finally completed His tasks of developing David and was prepared to set David as king over Israel. In God’s timing and in His special ways He had prepared David to rule righteously over Israel and in truth David was one of Israel’s greatest kings. David was certainly not without faults but even when he displayed his faults he was great for taking care of issues and getting things done. David was also a type of God’s Messiah, His Anointed One. David was an example of what every man, or woman, of God would be like.
Prayer for Today: God, help us to remember that as you cared for David so You can care for us. Help us to trust Your plans for our growth, and help us to trust that You have a plan for us and that You will carry out Your plans in us and for us. Help us to grow up and become stable and pure in You.
