After granting Solomon the gift of wisdom God allows him to display this gift by settling the impossible task of discerning who was the true mother between two disputing harlots fighting over one live child. These two harlots were symbols of the two groups of people in Israel – Judah and the northern tribes who will eventually be called Israel. God’s gift of wisdom so captivated Israel that they feared and respected King Solomon and saw that the wisdom of God was displayed in him. They accepted that God was working with King Solomon and they blessed him in their hearts and were willing to follow Solomon as king.
Prayer for Today: God, we ask today that You will grant us both wisdom and discernment regarding spiritual issues. We see many things around us but are not wise enough to know what to do. Please help us to recognize Your movements in the kingdoms of men, and help us to realize that only You can solve the issues we see. We want to be blessed in our relationship with You and help us to maintain our relationship with You so that we can be blessed like Israel of old. Thank You for Your great mercies and love to us.
