Wherefore hast thou despised the commandment of the LORD, to do evil in his sight? thou hast killed Uriah the Hittite with the sword, and hast taken his wife to be thy wife, and hast slain him with the sword of the children of Ammon. Now therefore the sword shall never depart from thine house; because thou hast despised me, and hast taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be thy wife. Thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will raise up evil against thee out of thine own house, and I will take thy wives before thine eyes, and give them unto thy neighbour, and he shall lie with thy wives in the sight of this sun. For thou didst it secretly: but I will do this thing before all Israel, and before the sun. II Samuel 12:9-12

David, when he was the most powerful king in his region, decided that he would sleep with the wife of one of his personal bodyguards. Not only that but when she gets pregnant David tries to hide his sin and when that doesn’t work out he plans to murder his friend. After he does all of these things he thinks he has gotten away with “murder”. But God confronts him and gets David himself to pronounce the penalty upon his own behavior. Then God confronts him as the murderer. David is devastated by his own behaviors. In the next part we will find out what David does and what will God do.
Prayer for Today: God, it is always amazing when we try to hide our addictive behaviors from You as though You can’t see us and don’t know what we are doing. Help us to be open and honest with you and with ourselves. We need Your help Lord and we ask that You won’t give up on us before we change. You know us, help us to know You and help us to hang onto You by faith. Thank You Lord for Your mercies toward us.
