So Saul died for his transgression which he committed against the LORD, even against the word of the LORD, which he kept not, and also for asking counsel of one that had a familiar spirit, to enquire of it; And enquired not of the LORD: therefore he slew him, and turned the kingdom unto David the son of Jesse. I Chronicles 10:13-14
Steps: 8, 9, 10, 12
God allowed Saul to continue to war against David until David grew strong spiritually and until Saul committed the unpardonable sin. God had used Saul to remove all of the witches and warlocks from Israel. But finally Saul had grown so rebellious that Saul chose to not listen to God and chose to go and seek a witch to consult with about his future in I Samuel 28. Saul wanted to have her call up Samuel from the dead to consult with him whom Saul would not listen to when he was alive. When Saul chose to listen to the evil and the deceptive and to reject the true and the honest, there was nothing else that God could do to save Saul but everything to do to rescue and enhance David. David was now ready to take over being the king of Israel in God’s way rather than by warfare.
Prayer for Today: God, help us to remember that You can save us in a thousand different ways of which we know nothing. We don’t know when You want to deliver us but we do know that when the time comes You can, and will, do all that is necessary to accomplish Your holy plans. Help us to trust in Your wisdom and grace.
