Deborah – A Judge of Israel

And Deborah, a prophetess, the wife of Lapidoth, she judged Israel at that time. Judges 4:4

Steps: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 11, 12

After the death of Joshua Israel had a series of leaders called Judges. They did not take the position of king for God was the King of Israel. But to take care of the daily issues of leadership God raised up different people to lead out and to make legal decisions for the people. Among this group was Deborah a prophetess. She was the leader chosen by God to care for His people. The case of Deborah clearly indicates that a woman can perform the duties of a leader in spiritual matters, and it shows that God calls women to the position of being a prophet as well. She performed her duties well and was honored with a position in the work of God.

Prayer for Today: God, help us not to have firm ideas of what we think is right or wrong until we have checked it out with You. Help us to trust Your wisdom and Your decisions both for others and for ourselves. Thank You for Your everlasting love, and for Your watchcare over us.
