Joshua Meets Jesus the Captain of the Lord’s Host

And it came to pass, when Joshua was by Jericho, that he lifted up his eyes and looked, and, behold, there stood a man over against him with his sword drawn in his hand: and Joshua went unto him, and said unto him, Art thou for us, or for our adversaries? And he said, Nay; but as captain of the host of the LORD am I now come. And Joshua fell on his face to the earth, and did worship, and said unto him, What saith my lord unto his servant? And the captain of the LORDS host said unto Joshua, Loose thy shoe from off thy foot; for the place whereon thou standest is holy. And Joshua did so. Joshua 5:13-15

Steps: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 12

Joshua was meditating about how he was going to handle affairs in Canaan and how to get Israel established in this new country, in light of all of the enemies in Canaan who would want to destroy Israel. While standing near the city of Jericho, Joshua sees a man in armor with his sword drawn. Joshua asks if he is a friend or enemy. The Man replied that He was the Captain of the Lord’s host and immediately Joshua falls to the earth and worships this man. Then the Captain tells Joshua to take off his shoes for the place where the Captain is standing is holy ground. This is the same thing that happened to Moses in Exodus 3:1-14. And this is the same person that Jesus of Nazareth claimed to be in John 8:58

Prayer for Today: God we thank You that You would be willing to talk to Joshua and we thank You for being willing to talk to us. Help us to have the spiritual discernment that when You talk to us we will be ready, willing, and able to recognize You and worship You.
