Israel Refuses to Go Into the Promised Land

And all the congregation lifted up their voice, and cried; and the people wept that night. And all the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron: and the whole congregation said unto them, Would God that we had died in the land of Egypt! or would God we had died in this wilderness! And wherefore hath the LORD brought us unto this land, to fall by the sword, that our wives and our children should be a prey? were it not better for us to return into Egypt? And they said one to another, Let us make a captain, and let us return into Egypt. Numbers 14:1-4

Steps: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6

God brings Israel to the borders of Canaan and is ready to bring the people into Canaan. Israel, however, is afraid and will not trust God to help them. Instead they decide that God is so untrustworthy that they want to go back to Egypt and they blame Him for not bringing them into the land of Canaan quicker than He has. No reasoning will help them for they are into full rebellion. They do not trust anyone but they will only do one thing clearly and that is not go into Canaan. They practice rebellion by faith.

Prayer for Today: God, You know that on any given day, or any given moment we to can be like Israel. No matter how many good things you have done for us we will choose fear over trusting in You. Please help us to learn how to grow up and learn how to trust You even when we do not feel like it. We need Your help, we do not want to go back to our own ways. Anything in the future is better than the disasters of the past. Thank You for not giving up on us.
