God Gives the Ten Commandments

Moreover thou leddest them in the day by a cloudy pillar; and in the night by a pillar of fire, to give them light in the way wherein they should go. Thou camest down also upon mount Sinai, and spakest with them from heaven, and gavest them right judgments, and true laws, good statutes and commandments: And madest known unto them thy holy sabbath, and commandedst them precepts, statutes, and laws, by the hand of Moses thy servant: Nehemiah 9:12-14

God led the nation of Israel out of Egypt by the power of His right arm. God brought Israel through many experiences and by the 50th day (Pentecost) had brought them to the mountain of Sinai. Here God reveals Himself to Israel in such a manner as they become afraid of Him and ask that God speak to Moses and then Moses can talk to them but they were afraid of the power and righteousness of God. God wanted to talk to them and give them wonderful spiritual gifts but they would not speak to God and commune directly with Him. God did the best that an infinite God could do to get close to them. Such is the impact of sin/addiction.

Prayer for Today: God You know that we are afraid of You and are afraid of what You will do with us if we give You permission. All of our historical interactions with You indicate You are a God of Your word. Help us to read Your Word and get ever clearer understandings of whom and what You are. Help us not to turn back to the world after You have called us out. We pray for Your help and blessings and that You will keep us with You. Thank You for Your love.
