God Reveals Himself to Moses

And the LORD descended in the cloud, and stood with him there, and proclaimed the name of the LORD. And the LORD passed by before him, and proclaimed, The LORD, The LORD God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth, Keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, and that will by no means clear the guilty; visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the children’s children, unto the third and to the fourth generation. And Moses made haste, and bowed his head toward the earth, and worshipped. And he said, If now I have found grace in thy sight, O Lord, let my Lord, I pray thee, go among us; for it is a stiffnecked people; and pardon our iniquity and our sin, and take us for thine inheritance. And he said, Behold, I make a covenant: before all thy people I will do marvels, such as have not been done in all the earth, nor in any nation: and all the people among which thou art shall see the work of the LORD: for it is a terrible thing that I will do with thee. Exodus 34:5-10

Steps: 11, 12

Moses is doing a great job interceding with God for rebellious Israel. While interceding he decides that he wants to see as much of God, and His glory, as he can. He asks God about it and God reveals His glory – His goodness and character. Later in this chapter Moses returns to the people and they are fearful of Moses, their intercessor because he saw so much of God that he literally was glowing with the brightness of God. What a wonderful revelation of God to man.

Prayer for Today: God we always say that we want to see You. Yet if we did see You we would probably be afraid of You. Help us to want to see You, and Your goodness, and help us not to run away from You. Thank You again for Your patience with us.
