Abel - the First Victorious Co-Dependent

By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts: and by it he being dead yet speaketh. Hebrews 11:4

Steps 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 11, 12

Abel struggled with Cain to try to help him see where he was going wrong. Cain rebelled against all of the efforts of Abel and eventually killed Abel. Abel’s life looked short and unfulfilled but God testifies to this very day that Abel was a righteous man. Abel did nothing wrong in his interactions with Cain. None the less Abel died for his convictions and the position he took spiritually. All people who have to deal with addicts, have their own addictions, but Abel, by sacrificing in harmony with God’s will, worked the steps and had recovery. We can gain courage by his witness, his efforts, and his life. God testifies to this.

Prayer for Today: God, thank you that you have left these stories to encourage us to go forward toward recovery. Some of us will die because we love the addicts in our lives. Yet we pray that we may have that testimony with you that we did all we could to help our loved one. We had victory in our lives and from our own addictions. And even though some of us may die like Abel, help us to trust in you and not turn back to our addictions to cover our pain and loss. Thank you Lord for being there for us, and for our loved ones.
