Abraham’s Act of Faith

By faith Abraham, when he was tried, offered up Isaac: and he that had received the promises offered up his only begotten son, Of whom it was said, That in Isaac shall thy seed be called: Accounting that God was able to raise him up, even from the dead; from whence also he received him in a figure. Hebrews 11:17-19

Steps 4. 5, 10

God chose to record Abraham’s offering of Isaac as a testimony of faith. He recorded this story both in Genesis – the beginnings, and in Hebrews 11 the chapter of the mighty acts of faith of His people. Abraham’s story is of such a nature that God wanted us to see it in a number of different ways. But one of the major ways is that it was an act of faith. Abraham did not understand why Isaac was to be offered up especially since God had said that through Isaac was to come the Messiah. But Abraham figured that if God chose to have Isaac killed He would be able to resurrect him to fulfill His promise in and through Isaac. By faith Abraham obeyed God believing that God would fulfill all of His promises by ways that Abraham had not seen before.

Prayer for Today: Help us to have the faith of Jesus like Abraham did. We can not see how You are going to do it in us but since you have promised to change us and to give us victory over all of our addictions and defects, we trust that You will accomplish it in us as you have done to men like Abraham. Thank You for your great power and deliverance.
