God Promises Abraham

And the angel of the LORD called unto Abraham out of heaven the second time,
And said, By myself have I sworn, saith the LORD, for because thou hast done this thing, and hast not withheld thy son, thine only son: That in blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which is upon the sea shore; and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies; And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed my voice. Genesis 22:15-18

Steps 3, 12

God testifies to Abraham that because he obeyed His voice that all of the nations of the world would be blessed by Abraham’s seed – Jesus Christ. All of this because Abraham had obeyed and had not withheld his son from God. Because Abraham had not withheld his son, he would be an example of the fact that God would not withhold His son. This testimony would be a blessing to the whole world throughout all of time.

Prayer for Today: Help us Lord to recognize Your gift in Jesus Christ. Most of us have read the story of Jesus before and may not have seen the connections with Abraham. We can’t imagine that we would be able to follow Abraham’s lead. Yet, in Your providence You have made arrangements that what the men of God in the Bible have done, You can do in us. Help us to hold on to these precious promises by faith.
