Jacob’s Name is Changed to Israel

And he said unto him, What is thy name? And he said, Jacob. And he said, Thy name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel: for as a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hast prevailed. And Jacob asked him, and said, Tell me, I pray thee, thy name. And he said, Wherefore is it that thou dost ask after my name? And he blessed him there. And Jacob called the name of the place Peniel: for I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved. And as he passed over Penuel the sun rose upon him, and he halted upon his thigh. Genesis 32:27-31

Steps: 1, 2, 3, 11, 12

Jacob receives the blessing he wants. His name is changed from thief (Jacob) to Prince of God (Israel). All of the struggling of life has been fulfilled in Israel. He has had a personal experience with God and he has been changed in character and in name. He has personally met with God and he did not die. Israel is now content to live or die; whatever God wants to do with him or in him he is willing. He has now had his 12th step.

Prayer for Today: We have seen what You have done with Jacob, now Israel. We don’t know how it will happen in our experience but we want what You did to Jacob. We have toiled through life a long time, the guilt has been almost unbearable. Today, we ask that You will change us as well. We want to get our new name. We are so tired of calling ourselves the evil names that Satan, and others, have called us. Today we want to have our experience with You, we want to come out of our meditations with you changed people. Thank You for this promise of change.
