Mahanaim

And Jacob went on his way, and the angels of God met him. And when Jacob saw them, he said, This is God’s host: and he called the name of that place Mahanaim. Genesis 32:1-2

Steps: 10, 11, 12

After his meeting with Laban, Jacob continues on his way home. He is nervous about meeting with Esau and is wondering if he will be safe. To answer this concern the angels of God are sent to him to reassure him. God allows Jacob to see the angels and sees two groups of angels, one group before him and one group behind him. Thus Jacob chooses to name the place Mahanaim – two hosts. He receives this vision as a blessing from God and is encouraged to continue to go home.

Prayer for Today: We thank You God for hearing our prayers even before we can recognize them and formulate them in our own minds. We thank You that would allow us to see the ways You support us and care for us. We ask today Lord that You will allow us to see more and that our hearts will grow more secure in You. As You cared for Jacob, we believe that You will care for us. Help us to hold on to You by faith.
