The Lord Calls Jacob to Come Home

And he heard the words of Laban’s sons, saying, Jacob hath taken away all that was our father’s; and of that which was our father’s hath he gotten all this glory. And Jacob beheld the countenance of Laban, and, behold, it was not toward him as before. And the LORD said unto Jacob, Return unto the land of thy fathers, and to thy kindred; and I will be with thee. And Jacob sent and called Rachel and Leah to the field unto his flock, And said unto them, I see your father’s countenance, that it is not toward me as before; but the God of my father hath been with me. And ye know that with all my power I have served your father. And your father hath deceived me, and changed my wages ten times; but God suffered him not to hurt me. Genesis 31:1-7

Steps: 4, 5, 6, 7

Jacob can see that his success is causing distress and envy in the minds of Laban and his sons. He is fearful that Laban, and his sons, might try to steal his possessions and cheat him as he has done ten times before. In his distress he talks to God about it and God tells him to go back to his homeland and that He would be with him. Jacob shares this command with his family and prepares to go hom.

Prayer for Today: God, we pray that when it comes our time to do something You will make Your commands abundantly clear. You know how slow we are to hear anything that will disrupt our normal course of life. We pray that when You talk to us we will be ready to surrender to You and to obey You. We know that we can not do this on our own and we ask for Your help today.
