Joseph’s Dreams

And Joseph dreamed a dream, and he told it his brethren: and they hated him yet the more. And he said unto them, Hear, I pray you, this dream which I have dreamed: For, behold, we were binding sheaves in the field, and, lo, my sheaf arose, and also stood upright; and, behold, your sheaves stood round about, and made obeisance to my sheaf. And his brethren said to him, Shalt thou indeed reign over us? or shalt thou indeed have dominion over us? And they hated him yet the more for his dreams, and for his words. Genesis 37:5-8

Steps: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 11, 12

God reveals to the family that Joseph has been granted the gift of having prophetic dreams. The problem is that rather than praising God for this gift, the brothers hate Joseph even more. They focus on the part of the dream where they are predicted to bow down to Joseph and the pride in their hearts will not allow them to open their minds to the testimony of God Himself. They start to plan a way to make the prophecy not come to pass, not realizing that to do this they will be fighting God Himself.

Prayer for Today: God, You know how limited our understanding of life is. We pray that we may learn the lessons You are trying to communicate to us today. We accept that we can not fight against You, yet we know our history of trying to fight You off. Help us to surrender to You today, by faith, believing that You know what is best for us and Your ways are safer for us than our ways. Help us to choose You again for today.
