And they went up out of Egypt, and came into the land of Canaan unto Jacob their father, And told him, saying, Joseph is yet alive, and he is governor over all the land of Egypt. And Jacob’s heart fainted, for he believed them not. And they told him all the words of Joseph, which he had said unto them: and when he saw the wagons which Joseph had sent to carry him, the spirit of Jacob their father revived: And Israel said, It is enough; Joseph my son is yet alive: I will go and see him before I die. Genesis 45:25-28

Now comes the hard part. If the brothers are honest, true, and if they have had a spiritual awakening, they now must tell their father the whole truth about their behaviors. What a day that must have been for both the brothers and the father. To know the depths of addictive behaviors that they had, and to go to the extent that they went to to try to stop God’s plan must have been amazing to Jacob. Yet, since Jacob was into recovery he would have to grant his sons the freedom to grow as well as he had wanted freedom to grow in grace and truth. Jacob was ready to go and see his son.
Prayer for Today: We pray God that when it is our turn to confess and make amends that we will not fear and stop. We pray that we may press forward in confidence that we will do what needs to be done. Help us not to hold back out of distrust of You. Help us to trust Your plans that confession of our sins to the people we have harmed opens the door to forgiveness and freedom. We won’t have to carry the heavy burden of guilt and sin any more. Thank You for our new found freedom.
