Simeon is Imprisoned

And they said one to another, We are verily guilty concerning our brother, in that we saw the anguish of his soul, when he besought us, and we would not hear; therefore is this distress come upon us. And Reuben answered them, saying, Spake I not unto you, saying, Do not sin against the child; and ye would not hear? therefore, behold, also his blood is required. And they knew not that Joseph understood them; for he spake unto them by an interpreter. And he turned himself about from them, and wept; and returned to them again, and communed with them, and took from them Simeon, and bound him before their eyes. Genesis 41:21-24

Steps 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10

Joseph is able to listen to the speech of his brothers and recognizes their guilt. Joseph takes Simeon, the ring leader of the slaughter of Shechemites and probably the one who wanted to kill Joseph originally, and puts him into jail as a hostage to bring the brothers back to Egypt after he sends them home with food. Simeon is starting to make his amends. The brothers are feeling their guilt as well.

Prayer for Today: O God, we fear that our sins from our past will find us out. Help us to be willing to make the amends necessary so that our punishment will not overwhelm us. Thank You for Your great mercies in not giving us what we deserve. Thank You for giving us what You deserve, and that You took what we deserved. Help us to trust in Your plans.
